Caudwell Mill at Rowsley, Derbyshire is a unique, grade II listed historic roller flour mill. Driven by water from the river Wye, a mill has stood on this site for at least 400 years. The present mill was built in 1874 by John Caudwell and run as a family business for over a century. For centuries the power of the river Wye has powered mills at Rowsley for all sorts of uses. The present mill was built with two water wheels to drive stones grinding flour and animal feed. The wheels turn too slowly with limited power to drive modern machinery. In 1887 one wheel was replaced with a water turbine. The mill now has two working turbines. A 50hp Little Giant installed in 1898 and a 76hp Francis twin installed in 1914 .
